Dr. Paul's Rules for good pet care
THE EYE THUMB RULE:
Have a veterinarian examine your pets eyes don't use home remedy eye problems. Correct diagnosis and treatment is essential for your pets vision. You can change the oil in your car, but leave your pets eyes in the hands of a professional----every time!
THE EAR THUMB RULE:
Over treat ear problems. Many pets develop chronic ear problems because their owners fail to have them diagnosed correctly (i.e. Don't take them to the vet), or they fail to treat the ear problem long enough. First ear infections are treated aggressively. Second ear infections are treated forever. Third ear infections in many cases are ready for surgery.
THE DENTISTRY THUMB RULE:
Feeding dry food, rawhides, and doggie bones are no substitute for dental care for your pet. Try going 5 years without brushing your teeth and see how you feel and take a look at who you attract. Since pets are unable to brush, responsible owners will be sure their pets receives regular dental attention. Our standard
is to clean teeth regularly after their fifth birthday, but earlier if their annual exam demonstrates any problems.
THE PET FOODS THUMB RULE:
1.) "Premium pet foods may cost more in the bag but they are cheaper in the pet". Feed premium pet foods. They pay big benefits! Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet.
2.) Prescription pet foods for medical problems may be very beneficial, but be wary of unscrupulus practitioners who prescribe these rations as a profit center. Every pet does not need to be on prescription pet food.
3.) Geriatric pets have special needs and deserve extra attention. Very little effort on owners part will extend life of pet significantly and improve their senior years. Remember, this is a very important member of your family not a disposable appliance. So, provide some quality to your pets senior years, you will be rewarded with a loving healthy pet who's unconditional love will inspire you.
