STEP ON A NAIL

This can be a very serious injury. The owner usually notices an acutely lame horse. Many owners will find upon examination a nail in the foot.

Make note of the location of the nail hole, the direction of the nail hole, the depth that the nail penetrates, and the size of the nail when it is removed. If possible save the nail for your veterinarian to examine.

•  Call your veterinarian right away!

A tetanus shot is a must and depending on the severity of the injury, more followup care is usually required.
